PLAYER THAT HAS ALWAYS WANTED TO GIVE THE JAZZ WORLD A TRY, BUT WASN'T QUITE SURE HOW TO GO
ABOUT IT IN AN EFFICIENT WAY. NOW, YOU CAN HAVE MORE FUN & GET MORE GIGS - ONCE YOU COMPLETE
THIS LEAD TRUMPET COURSE!
Minimums to be able to enroll:
1) You will need at least a High D to take this course. Why? The majority of lead trumpet charts seem to almost always have High C's and High D's. If you currently are unable to play up to High D, you should enroll in the 4 month trumpet upper register program first. CLICK HERE
2) This course is given in two ways: (a) To beginning lead trumpet players with no experience. The lead charts and high range for the individual at this level will be easy to average. Everything will be taught at the beginning from the very basics on up.
or
(b) To the serious, advanced and professional lead trumpet player with a decent amount of experience. The lead charts will be difficult to very difficult and you will be expected to have a high range at least up to Double G...that is the G above High C. If I detect that some of the basics need reviewing, we will do that so be prepared and come with an open mind! Some trumpeters with a good range, play lead horribly. If that is you, I will be frank and we will fix what needs fixing.
Please make sure to let me know what player you are during the consultation so the program will be exactly where it needs to be for you!
TWEENS: If you feel you are in between i.e. you can play lead, but not at the top level and you don't have the range up to Double G, you will need to achieve a better upper register. In this case, it could be just your upper register holding you back from playing the hardest and most challenging lead trumpet charts in the world. CLICK HERE for a consult about my Upper Register Program if that is the case. If you have a fantastic high range, but lack the experience in playing lead trumpet in broadway, jazz, big band, rock, etc...you may want to consider starting the course at the basic level and then progress up to the top tier, advanced level.
WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON DURING THIS COURSE?
1) Correct Jazz Style
2) Specific Jazz Articulation
3) How To Swing
4) How To Know Exactly How To Articulate A Rhythm: many times you see notes written differently than how they should be played i.e. triplets that appear to be tongued when, in fact, you should slur them.
5) Speed Sighteading
6) Master The Most Common Jazz Figures And Rhthyms That Come Up Over And Over
7) Put Your Upper Register To Work: just because you can play a double high c at home on your couch doesn't mean you can while playing a real, mean top tier lead chart like Al Jarreau's "Imagination". We will fix that!
8) There Will Be Some Required Books To Purchase
9) You Will Learn And Master REAL Lead Trumpet Charts From Known, Jazz Charts
10) Audition: You Will Be Prepared For Any Audition And You May Work On Your Audition During This Course
11) Advanced Lead Trumpet Playing: know when to take certain notes or licks up. know when you can lay out or take certain things down. You ARE the lead player....The Lamborghini!!! You don't take the Lamborghini on a short 5 minute ride to get groceries and you shouldn't burn yourself out playing a Soli section where the entire trumpet section is playing the same thing!
After graduating and completing this course, YOU WILL BE A LEAD TRUMPET PLAYER!
The Trumpet is a great instrument whether jazz trumpet or solo trumpet, but requires a very strong embouchure. What kind of trumpet notes require this type of strong embouchure? High C, Double C, and Triple C all would require a strong embouchure to play these high trumpet notes. A trumpeter must take trumpet lessons to increase skill level. Trumpeters like Maynard Ferguson playing the trumpet solo, Give It One, and Bill Chase playing the trumpet solo, Get It On, had a very strong trumpet embouchure. Trumpets are made out of brass and make a beautiful sound when used in trumpet songs. James Last Orchestra also featured many fine trumpet players. This site has trumpet tips, trumpet websites, trumpet sites, trumpet teachers, trumpet tutors, and trumpet lessons. Don't forget about TPIN, Trumpet Player's International Network, ITG, and International Trumpet Guild.
